It’s a Monster Mash!- Halloween in Southern California

Halloween has come and gone. Now that it has, let me give you the lowdown of what goes on in Southern California on the spookiest night of the year. What can you do in California? No worries I will show you the best places to go for Halloween, including my favorite haunts.

Knott’s Scary Farm- Or as it usually known as Knott’s Berry Farm. One of my personal favorite amusement parks in Southern California. With an abundance of scary rides, including the GhostRider, The Xcelerator, and my favorite one The Silver Bullet. All of these name seem to come out of a horror film, and all are equally as scary. During the month of October, the amusement park changes it’s theme to Knott’s SCARY farm, adorning the entire park with fake cobwebs, fog machines and of course monsters. It is at it’s best at night. In the darkness all the rides are lit up, fog machines are on, and in the mist you see a shadow. A truly frightening shadow lurches in the darkness waiting to give you a fright. Anything that goes bump in the night terrifies me. Truth be told, I am a true “scaredy cat” at heart. However each year as a tradition, I muster up the courage to come back to Knott’s scariest night of the year. Enter if you dare- this is not for the faint of heart.

FrightFest- Six Flags- Venture up north for a truly terrifying night. I came here one Halloween, with some friends and I was scared out of my wits. The rides are scary enough, but with the “monsters” it ranks up to one of spookiest places to go for Halloween. Somehow they target me, I guess my face says it all. All night long, I am tormented by the employees dressed up as these bloody, zombish creatures who seems to jump out from every corner imaginable. Quite frustrating, but all together fun in some odd way. I guess you can chalk it up to the adrenaline, the fear that keeps you going, plus knowing that it is all fake is a bit comforting. So, check out this FRIGHT FEST.

Universal Studios Hollywood- A fan of the films? Come here for Halloween, most are dressed as some of films truly frightening characters, such as Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature of the Black Lagoon, and so on. Fans of the classic horror films will take delight here. Stroll on the City walk for fantastic cuisine, and candy shoppes. Once inside the amusement park, do go on the Jurassic Park ride, The Revenge of the Mummy, also for fun go on the Simpsons ride (their latest addition). Another fun thing to do here is to go on the Universal Studios Tram Tour, which takes you through the studios backlot, where you can hope to catch a glimpse of movie stars. It will also take you through famous filming locations, such as the Bates hotel in Psycho, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and of course the newest addition War of the Worlds. Universal Studios is another favorite of mine, so do make a trip here at any time of the year, and especially Halloween.

Disneyland/California Adventure- For some PG-13 scare, go to Disneyland. Even the Happiest place on Earth gets ready for Halloween, and it is frighteningly cute. This is the place to bring children to for Halloween, they will have a blast and might even spot Mickey Mouse. Do go on the Indiana Jones ride, and Space Mountain. Right next door of Disneyland is California adventure, a slightly new amusement park. Their bragging rights? The Hollywood Tower of Terror is here! The ride is set around the Twilight Zone episode where several people disappear on the elevator on one fateful night and no one knows what happened to them. Now, this ride is not for the faint of heart.

Each town has some type of event for Halloween, so do some research before you come to California and you are guaranteed to find some haunts out here.
