BODO Farmers Market

written by Cherie July 11, 2009

In the midst of the crowds, white tents are set up alongside the sidewalk. Buildings towering over me, and the coolness of summer is swiftly coming and going. People are shouting out their products to passerbys. Remarks such as “Fresh fruits and vegetables, you won’t find this anywhere else!” Or “Fantastic Wine from the local Winery, it’s delicious and fresh! give it a try folks!”. What I noticed, and loved about this market was that everyone promised FRESH produce. Everything was hand picked that morning from their local farms, or the wine recently went out of the barrel and into the wine bottles;perfected over time. Each tent had something amazing to offer, something new, and exciting, and most were old fashioned. Old fashioned in the way, their products were made, Cheese, Bread, Wine. Family traditions held over the ages, and into the new generation.
Walking down the street, something caught my eye. Red, plump raspberries in their wooden baskets. Immediately, I sought out to buy myself a box. The sign read, “fresh, handpicked raspberries! 5 dollars per box!” In the handwritten sentiment, I grabbed a box and walked away happy. Their promise was intact, I had gobbled up the entire box. It was delicious, sweet, and savory.
Streets were blocked off, the market stretched out for about a mile. Over crowded, the hot sun is hanging in the sky. The coolness of the morning is long gone. However, it is all worth it when you walk down the street. All these vendors, the people, their kindness and passion for food makes it all the worthwhile. It beats the supermarket, the grumpy cashier, and not so fresh fruits. So check out a local one in your town today! However, if you are in Boise, Idaho. You will love this market! Music vendors, Arts and Crafts, Food, Wine, and so much more. It has something for everyone. Come on up and try the freshest delicacy that Idaho has to offer!
