You say Potatos, I say Sweet Potatoes

written by Cherie May 11, 2010

Tomboy’s is known for their “World Famous Chili Hamburgers” – and I have to say they are pretty good! I used to go to Tomboy’s often when I lived in Manhattan Beach, it’s like the funkier version of Carl’s Junior with their Fried Zucchini, Burgers, and Curly Fries. To be honest, I actually prefer Tomboy’s version.

Yesterday, I decided to waltz in and order the usual. I spotted a bird stuck in the building, one of the employees decided to try and usher it out the doors. The little bird kept flying in the windows, I felt bad. After 10 minutes of watching the bird, and waiting to take my order- it flew out. But, then I caught my eye on something else.. A new special they were offering. The advertisement was for Sweet Potato Fries, I just had to get it. I’m a big fan of Sweet Potato, and of course one of my weakness is Fries. Here it was, sweet potato fries. I have always heard of them but never got the chance to order one.

It was fantastic, although the only negative was that there wasn’t a special sauce to go with it. I tried it with the Ranch, it was surprisingly good but it didn’t mesh well. Sweet potato fries are really rich in flavor and it can be a meal in itself. I ordered it without a cheeseburger, and I am glad I did. Within minutes I was full. I heard it was a limited time special, but I hope they really do stick around. The Chili Cheeseburger is another meal you have to try when you head to Tomboy’s after all it is what they are famous for. The Fried Zucchini and their Breakfast Burrito, are also great to try. Manhattan Beach is filled with hidden gems, and their more well known restaurants. But Tomboy’s will always be a place to go. Check it out!
