Why not rot your brain abroad? After a day of cultural immersions, you probably want to zone right? Bored on a red-eye flight to Paris, but no movies on your I-pod or the I-phone? No worries, in this blog post I will address several programs, websites, and give you tips on what to do.
Netflix:
If you are a Netflix member, and you will be away for a certain period of time. Here is what you can do. Go to my account, and click on the link entitled “Put my Membership on hold”. The membership hold will be activated immediately, then you will have to select the reactivation date, which will allow you up to 7 -90 days until it is reactivated. Once the date passes it will automatically reactivate your account. Putting your membership on hold means, no DVD will be delivered to your house, and you will not have to worry about paying the monthly bills. So, that’s extra money towards your trip, great huh? But, you will not be able to watch the instantly on the PC or the TV. On another note, they will start adding Closed Captions to the “Watch Instantly” section on Netflix soon!
SlingPlayer:
You can opt for the more expensive route and that is the Slingplayer. The IPhone has Slingplayer App soon available through the Itunes store. Approximately $200 plus in price. But, you are able to watch all your favorite shows abroad via laptop. Don’t worries, you will not miss the latest American Idol episode with this. As for captioning, its a brand new feature they added.
Hulu:
Because they’re Aliens, and that’s how they roll. They plan to turn your brain into goo by streaming the latest Television series, including Bones, Saturday Night Live and so on. Hulu plans to add more television series, and some already have Closed Captioning included. Simply click CC, and enjoy the show. They announced that more television series, movies will come with the option of Closed Captioning, so be patient if your shows do not have CC yet. Trust me, they are working on it. They want to reach a broader audience, seeing that they are aliens and all…
ABC.com, and other Television networks have added CC to their programs, check out their sites, and find the show you want to watch, select CC and voila, you are watching your favorite shows whilst being in Prague, impressive..
Itunes: You are able to buy movies, and shows from Itunes directly, but few are captioned. To find those that are captioned, click POWER SEARCH on the right of the screen, and then select Movies or Tv. Make sure you check the box, that says “search only for movies that contain Closed Captioning” download, and then upload onto your device.
Iphone: One of the many great features of the 3.0 is that once you download a movie, it is automatically uploaded directly to your Iphone.
And lastly, my favorite program that has served me well.
PQDVD( DVD to I-phone or Ipod converter): This program allows you to download a movie or your favorite shows WITH subtitles and convert it into Ipod or IPhone compatible files. Rent a movie from Netflix, or use from your personal movie library, then burn it, and download it on your device. It is like recording a show, once the program starts, go to the DVD menu, select the subtitles, and then click the start button. The movie will play on your screen in a fast forward pace, it will be mute, so don’t avert the sound on your screen. Once the program finished recording the movie, or television episode you have chosen, save the file. Now, step by step here’s how to add it to I-tunes. 1) Open Itunes 2) Click File, Scroll down and select add file to library 3) Find the folder where the recently downloaded movie is in, select it, and then click open. 4) ‘t forget to update your device before you go.
Congratulations, you are done, and now you can watch your favorite movie on the plane!
