Since we know all of these famous tourists attractions, what do we really know about Seattle?
I came here thinking I knew everything about the Emerald City, I knew of the famous Market, I knew of the movie, I knew of Starbucks. However, I was surprised to find that I discovered a different Seattle. A bustling city, that is for sure. Shops line up across the street, old factory buildings and endless views of the glistening ocean. However, I had no idea that they take pride in their University, and the football team; The Huskies. During my time here, I visited the University of Washington. Reminiscent of old world flair, and modern intrigue. University of Washington is a extremely large campus, that seems to be growing every year. New with the Old is quite evident here. Modern campus buildings are meshed with the Old majestic campus buildings. It’s something to be seen, with the breathtaking view of Mt. Rainer. However, they have several Libraries, One that reminds of you of Harry potter with its large majestic stairwell, as well as Modern Libraries with glass windows. Another place to take note of is the Museum within Campus. With artifacts from the old Gold Rush days, along with many other things is something you must check out during your time here. Don’t forget the huge football stadium that resides next to the ocean. GO HUSKIES!
Another thing I loved about Seattle was the Artistic Flair. In Pikes Place Market, I found an fantastic Artist stand. I was surprised to find that the artist was in fact Deaf. Elated, I found a Deaf person to talk to in Seattle?! I chatted to him in Sign Language, he was a kind man with love of the Arts. His arts featured Sign Language Symbols, Classic Pikes Place Market Scene, and of course Starbucks. I quickly snatched up the Starbucks Picture, it was a painting of the outside of Starbucks(the original one). I was so excited to meet a Deaf Artist in the midst of the Seattle Scene. Along with the painting, I read the paper that he typed up. I read his story, it was quite touching how he was trying to make a living with just his paintings. My fellow travelers, once you make the journey to Seattle, please do stop by this little Deaf artist stand, and check out the paintings. They are truly fantastic, and gorgeous. It will take some searching before you find the stand, in the bustling market. They change spots every now and then, the last place I remember the stand was by the flowers.
My time in Seattle was over, alas the day went by quickly. I wished I had more time to explore Seattle, but I had to make the 8 hour journey back to Boise. Wishing that I would have more time to check out the other iconic attractions Seattle had to offer, the Space needle, the museums, the ocean side and so much more. The Emerald city shone, a rare gem that I came to love. I hope to come back sometimes soon, and really embrace the Seattle life.
